Wed, Intermediate Hike - Central Salmon River

We’ll start with a stroll along the river through huge old-growth trees then climb to a bluff above the river for views of the upper canyon of the Salmon River. Intermediate Hike - Gorge Waterfalls

Join me for a waterfall hike in the Gorge. The falls we’ll see are Horsetail, Ponytail, Oneonta and at the top Triple. We’ll go about 4.5 miles with about 1,200 ft. elevation gain at an easy pace. Hike limited to 12 people. Meet at the Gateway Transit Center parking structure, NE 99th Ave. north of NE Pacific St., at 9 a.m. to carpool. Lets hike to this mountain on one of the westernmost ridges in the Cascade for views of Mt. Hood and the Willamette Valley (rescheduled from last month due to the weather). The hike is 6.8 miles with 1,200 ft. elevation gain at an easy pace, but we may extend it a bit by going to some more viewpoints. Hike limited to 12 people. This 5-mile hike will take us through a forest of gnarled old spruce and hemlock trees filled with ferns, salal, salmonberry and candyflowers to a cliff-top meadow of red Indian paintbrush, white yarrow and scarlet fireweed 400 ft. above the waves. If the whales are migrating this is a great place to spot them.
