Trip Leader Checklist

  • Collect signatures, contact information and $3 fee from non-members.
  • Pass out map and/or handouts
  • Select assistant leader (sweep trail, etc.)
  • Review trip rating and trip essentials
  • Help arrange carpool, mention carpool fee (15 cents per mile)
  • Discuss trip plans (e.g., meeting place, lunch, return time)
  • Discuss plan if group gets separated
  • Conduct group introductions at meeting site
  • Identify probable quitting time (i.e., trip length)
  • Assess group size, ability level & equipment
  • Select post-trip meeting place if appropriate
  • Request those not properly equipped or skilled to not participate
  • Check that all participants return
