Skijoring

Did you ever think that the kid who rollerblades through your neighborhood being towed by her Labrador is crazy?

Actually, rollerblading with a dog is similar to a hot new trend in dog recreation: skijoring. In this sport, a corss-country skier is attached to one or more dogs. The word skijoring is Norwegian for ‘ski driving’.

The equipment needed to skijor is minimal — assuming that you have a dog who likes to run. If you have ever wanted to try dog mushing, but could not see yourself springing for a trip to Alaska, skijoring may be for you!

Although some skiing ability is needed, one does not need to be an expert. Almost any breed (or mix) of dog will do for this sport so long as the dog like to run and can be taught to pull. Typically, skijoring dogs are 30 to 100 pounds.
