Tilly Jane A-Frame Now Under Trial Reservation System
Parkdale, OR – The Oregon Nordic Club has agreed to partner with Mt. Hood National Forest to manage the Tilly Jane A-Frame under a temporary one year special use permit. Under the arrangement, the Oregon Nordic Club will assist the Forest Service by managing winter use and occupancy, maintaining the cabin, and completing necessary renovation/reconditioning projects. For the current season, all overnight stays in the cabin will require a reservation. Interested members of the public may make a reservation by visiting Oregon Nordic Club’s web site at: www.onc.org
Tilly Jane A-Frame, located on the north flank of Mt. Hood, is a popular cabin used by winter recreationists. Peak season for use of the cabin is usually December through March. The structure has become very popular in recent years. As a result, some management challenges have developed such as numbers of people using the cabin exceeding safe occupancy limits. “We are grateful for Oregon Nordic Club’s willingness to help us provide this facility to the recreating public,” said Daina Bambe, Hood River District Ranger.
After the current winter season, the Forest Service will re-assess the situation. If appropriate, the Forest Service may propose a multi-year special use permit for management of Tilly Jane A-Frame. As part of the proposal, the Forest Service would also seek ideas from the public by providing opportunities for public involvement.
