  • Trillium Lake Shelter General discussion Mike Greenstreet 05/16/10 05/17/10

Approximately three years ago ONC/Portland initiated a process to build a warming hut at the overflow campsite area near the Trillium Lake damsite. After obtaining a environmental site analysis at a cost of $3000.00 the project has stalled. Now the ONC Board has an offer to relinquish/delay our project and in exchange a private firm will build a shelter in the same location. Campbell Springs Ranch(CSR) owns 160 acres west of Trillium Lake and in addition to developing a kids camp on its own...

    Washington Sno-Park reciprocity ends

The issues report for this month is on a subject dear (or not so dear) to all cross-country skiers’ hearts. Reciprocity between Washington and Oregon on sno-park permits has come to an end. Effective the coming ski season, Oregon skiers who decide to journey across the Columbia to ski will be required to have a Washington sno-park permit, whether or not they have an Oregon...

  • Nordic Issues September 2010 - Washington Sno-Park reciprocity General discussion Marita Ingalsbe 09/19/10 11/26/10

Washington Department of Parks and Recreation provided notice of a change in the regulations for the Washington Sno-Park program that will impact reciprocity with other states. Washington looked at programs of neighboring states and found that current programs were not truly reciprocal: the programs provide different services with different fee structures. Washington expects their rule change to become effective December 2010 at which time the reciprocity with Oregon and other states would...

  • Outing Report: Bennett Ridge Trail, 27th Dec 2010 General discussion Black Andrew 12/28/10 12/28/10

Perfect snow on the Bennett Ridge Trail yesterday.  However, we did not get very far.  As we approached Wind Gap, where there is an open slope down to the right, the snow had drifted into deep (2 to 3 feet) corrugations across the trail, making progress extremely slow.  My partner didn't want to continue; I waded on another 50...
  • Crazy Hills (Wind River, WA) General discussion 01/10/11 01/14/11

    Hi All,

I was looking through Klindt Vielbig's book and came across the "Crazy Hills" chapter describing a trail system up the road from Oldman Pass in Wind River. Does anyone now about these trails?

    Thanks,

    Kevin

Yes, I am very familiar with the Crazy Hills trail system.  I will be leading at least two, maybe three tours in the Crazy Hills in February...

  • Nordic Issues - Jan. 2012 / Paving an 8-acre parking lot on Nordic ski trails at Mt. Hood Meadows Nordic Area General discussion Marita Ingalsbe 12/28/11 12/28/11

Mt. Hood Meadows (Meadows) requested, and the US Forest Service (USFS) has completed a draft Environmental Impact Statement for a proposal to build a 8-acre parking lot and clearing an additional 4.5 acres that will also include a new Nordic center and expansion of maintenance facilities. The Hanel Loop, Stump Lane, Beargrass Loop, and possibly Raven Way Nordic fee-based trails are currently located in the area of the planned parking area. The USFS proposes to mitigate the loss of these ski...

  • Nordic Issues - Jan. 2012 / Edelweiss Ski Club fights incursion of snowmobiles around their Hemlock Butte Cabin General discussion Marita Ingalsbe 12/28/11 12/28/11

Hemlock Butte and the Hemlock Butte Cabin are located between and south of Mt. Bailey and Diamond Lake, about 24 miles east of Roseburg, OR. The Edelweiss Ski Club helped build and volunteers to maintain the cabin, which can accommodate 20 guests. Although the main trails to the cabin are marked as non-motorized, snowmobilers have been traveling very close to these trails, coming in the area of the cabin, and now desire to use the trails legally and the area around the cabin for escape...
