What's New(s)
Upcoming Activities

New ONC Website Coming

We plan to launch a new Oregon Nordic Club website shortly after the March 28 ONC State Board Meeting. The new site includes subsites for all ONC Chapters and is intended to be an improved gateway for the organization and to build a stronger Nordic community by encouraging sharing of news and events amongst the various chapters. We encourage you to follow this link to preview the site and then give your feedback by using the webmaster link at the top.

National Geographic's Central Cascades
Geotourism Map and Website Launched 1/19

This is a really awesome resource for the Central Cascades (Seattle to Siskiyous). The website has tons of active links and the free (until March) map is another gorgeous National Geographic product. Definitely check it out.

ONC-Columbia Gorge Chapter Flickr Site

We've put a load of last year's pictures onto a new Flickr site so it's easier to share (and to upload, annotate and use). Take a look at your friends having fun and plan to join us on more of our outings.
Oh yea, be sure to do a snow dance while you're at it.

Columbia Gorge Region
Rated #11 Worldwide Destination Location
by National Geographic

We all know it to be true, but now a National Geographic survey confirms that the Columbia Gorge Region is among the top 11 highest rated destination locations in the world, and the 2nd highest in the US.

This is the opinion of an assembled panel of 437 well-traveled experts in a variety of fields—historic preservation, site management, geography, sustainable tourism, ecology, indigenous cultures, travel writing and photography, and archaeology.

They were asked to make an assessment of authenticity and stewardship, evaluating the qualities that make a destination unique and measuring its "integrity of place." Read more>>>

Columbia Gorge Chapter Crater Lake Ski Trip
March 23-26
Planning Meeting Saturday, March 20

We're having a planning meeting for the Crater Lake club ski trip on Saturday, 3/20, at 3:00 p.m. This will be a pot-luck. We will furnish brats and chicken. Our address is 420 West 10th St., The Dalles, OR. Please RSVP to SkipandJan@charter.net or 541-296-4837 and let me know if you have any questions.

Oregon Nordic Club John Craig Get-Together
March 27, Meet-up 10am in Sisters, OR

The State and Central ONC had to cancel the John Craig Mail Carry ski event this year for lack of co-sponsors, and as it turns out a lack of snow! Instead, all ONC chapter members are invited to participate in an end of season ski celebration on Saturday March 27th! We'll meet up at 10am in Sisters near the Movie Theater and go from there.

Tentatively, we will start with a classic ski tour up to Dee Wright Memorial on McKenzie Pass. McKenzie Pass looked good a couple weeks ago and though we're losing snow fast it's been good at higher elevations. So if we get more snow it's a go for a ski event. If no snow, we can hike or bike and have a social mixer afterward.

Afterward, we've reserved space in the Three Creeks Brewery bar for a happy hour apres ski get together. They have great beers and it's a great place for a social mixer there. If people want to stay for dinner they serve good food in the restaurant adjacent to the bar. Forward any questions, comments or suggestions to Cassie Giddings!

ONC State Board Meeting
9am - 12pm, Sunday, March 28, Ponderosa Room
Best Western Ponderosa Inn, Sisters, OR

All members are welcome to attend the state board meeting. Key agenda items will include officers elections, the new website, and John Day awards. We typically evaluate the John Craig event for next year as well.
For more information contact Cassie Giddings.
