What a start to the season, lousy that is!  After a teaser in November that gave us a few good skis, it's been more like the Texas drought so far in December.  There's still some good snow and skiing if you get enough altitude and find the right places, but the forecast isn't great for new snow through Xmas.  We can only hope this is the January thaw we've seen the past two years, and we'll see a continuing dump once this stagnant high pressure ridge moves out again and the...

Nominees for Portland Chapter Board of Directors

In April, 2011, the Portland chapter will elect three new board members to two year positions. Qualifications are basically a love of cross country skiing , a desire to give back to the club, a few hours of your time each month, and good judgement and communication skills. The club's future depends on member participation, whether it is through work on the Tilly Jane A frame, helping with the new internet platform,...

Mike, well done with the Q&A. ...

  • Meacham Divide conditions today Dan White Dec 25 2010 - 6:32pm 1 year 19 weeks ago Read the whole blog>>>

I skied Meacham Divide today and found that conditions were pretty good.  The recent windy weather has blown a lot of pine needles on the trails which slows things down a bit.  And although the temps have been above freezing today, the trail surface is still set well enough for skate skiing.  The road is still in great shape.  A special thanks to the visiting snowshoers who walked along the far edge of the trail (don't forget you can also walk along the far side of the...

So we'll see how the weather forecasters do. Wetter winter? but what about temps? I didn't get enough summer this year, and am hoping for a dry warm October.

As a new board member and newly elected president of the Portland chapter, one of my first chores has been to review the duties of the President as outlined in our new by-laws. Sadly I learned that one of these duties includes the review of Directors and Officers liability coverage which I expanded to review the coverage for tour leaders. This required reading many many pages of insurance legalese on a computer monitor-do not try this at home!! My next attempt will involve printing out...

I plowed through it in about 1996.  My...

I would encourage all board members to contact state ONC and obtain a password to familiarize themselves with how this website works.

Well, we've finished for this year. Thanks to all for another great year of nordic skiing at Teacup. We continue on a solid financial and organizational footing and look forward to next year's skiing - after a bit of a rest!

  • We got dumped on!!! James Cagney Apr 3 2010 - 5:33pm 2 years 5 weeks ago Read the whole blog>>>

Cental Oregon was massively dumped on April 2nd and it is still coming down.  Our lowest snowpark, Meissner, was not skiable April 1.  But it has a couple of feet now.  They got several feet higher up the mountain.  This should extend our season by weeks.  Yahoo!!!

Getting near the end of the 2009-10 season. Winding down, but I have skated recently. Formal ski is coming up soon. Be sure and leave room for summer activities like rafting, hiking and fixing up trails.

Just returning from our formai ski, whick is...

The snowpack is well below normal and serious dumps have been few and far between. Skiing of late has ranged from wet and sloppy to hard and icy. So what is the devoted skier to do?

Think spring,of course; but abandon all thought of planting peas or tomatoes. Instead, prepare for excursions to the mountains in April and May. A marvelous change in snow conditions occurs as days lengthen and temperatures rise: the snowpack consolidates, the surface firms and the warmth of...
