Meacham Divide Nordic Area
Location
Meacham Divide Nordic Area was created to give our families and visitors an easily accessible place to enjoy nordic skiing and winter recreation. The Blue Mountain Nordic Club built and manages the ski area. We depend on the users of Meacham Divide and volunteers to operate and finance this ski area.
No trail fees are charged, but donations are encouraged to help defray the grooming expenses. We encourage you to become a supporting member of the Blue Mountain Nordic Club so that this unique community recreation area may continue and grow. All contributions are tax deductible, and you'll receive our newsletters, in addition to an annual report. Volunteers are needed to help with trail grooming, maintenance of the trails and facilities, and ski instruction. Please see the membership page or contact these folks for more information:
- Mary Rowland
- Anne March
- Union County Tourism, 800-848-9969 or 541-963-8588.
The Blue Mountain Nordic Club tries to groom trails regularly, especially for the weekends. All trails are 12 feet wide, with both skating and diagonal lanes. Trails are marked by plastic blue diamonds attached to trees. Grooming usually begins in late November when there is sufficient snow, and continues through March. For current snow and grooming conditions, call Union Country Tourism at 541-963-8588 or 800-848-9969
The Nordic area is accessed from Summit Road exit 243 on I-84 (travel 18 miles west from La Grande, OR, or 34 miles east from Pendleton, OR). At the exit, travel 1.7 miles northeast on Forest Service Road 31. All wheel drive vehicle is generally required. A snopark pass is required. Recommended donation: $7.00 per person.
SKIER SAFETY AND RESPONSIBILITY CODE
Skiing at Meacham Divide is done at your own risk; skiing here requires the same common sense and good judgment that is necessary for any backcountry nordic ski excursion. Unmarked natural and man-made hazards may be encountered. It is the skier's responsibility to always ski under control and in such a manner that you can stop or avoid other skiers or hazards. Ski only on trails within your ability level. Snow conditions can vary and storms can develop suddenly, limiting visibility. Cross country skiing, as with other outdoor activities, can be inherently risky, and requires that skiers be prepared for all conditions. It is possible to become disoriented even on marked and groomed trails. Carry a map, compass, extra clothing, and water at all times. The trails are not patrolled or lighted at night. Grooming machines and equipment may be on trails at any time. Use extreme caution when near drop-offs by viewing points. Ponds and streams are subject to unstable ice and snow. Oregon statutory Code 30.970-999 is in effect. In an emergency, dial 911. The nearest telephone is in the town of Meacham, 6 miles west on I-84.
THE RULES!
- No Snowmobiles/ATVs allowed on ski trails.
- Please, no foot traffic, non-ski sleds or tubes. Snowshoers, please stay off diagonal tracks.
- No dogs past the base of Moose Huff hill
- Do not approach/disturb wildlife.
- Observe and obey trail signs.
- Trails run both directions.
THANK YOU! To our partners in the Meacham Divide Cross Country Ski Area and Emily SnoPark:
