Welcome to the Historic TILLY JANE A-FRAME SHELTER

For the Benefit and Safety of all Day Travelers and Overnight Guests:

Capacity: -Maximum of 20 people per night (no pets) – Advance Reservation and payment required.  Drop box is available for day use fee:  Day Travelers fee is $5.

Trash:  Pack out all trash - including empty fuel canisters; Leave no food nor food residue to attract rodents or other pests.  Dump stove ash at least 200 feet from A-Frame.

Tools and Lanterns: – Lock in storage chest before leaving (lock combination provided with reservation).  Pots are provided for melting snow mid-winter.

Latrine: -  We encourage use of the pit toilet in the Tilly Jane Camp Ground as we cannot pump the outhouse at the A-frame.  No trash in pit toilet, please!

FIRE SAFETY

Note the Fire Exits indicated by the “EXIT” signs at Front Door and Rear Door.  Evacuate in case of fire!

Keep Evacuation Routes clear of material day and night, including sleeping areas.

Restrict use of open flame devices for cooking or lighting to minimum 10-feet from combustibles.

Cook on the old kitchen stove or floor, not on the tables.

Do not tamper with smoke and CO2 alarms.  They are for your night protection.

  • Use of Candles is not allowed;
  • If using liquid stove fuel transfer fuel only outside of structure; Store it outside only.

Remove snow outside the Rear Door (Main Floor) to maintain regular access via this Fire Exit.

BE MINDFUL

Fair and Reasonable Behavior is asked of all Day Travelers and Overnight Guests: 

  • Day Travelers – keep dogs outside, respect Overnight Guests;
  • Evening activity, noises and voices should cease by 10 PM;
  • Morning activity should be as quiet as possible until after Dawn.
  • No smoking in the A-Frame or within 20 feet of any entrance.

Heavy mid-winter snows may require melting snow for supplemental water supply – keep it clean and filter or treat water for your protection.

Leave some dry kindling ready for of the next users of this Shelter.  They may be cold and wet.

The Volunteer Group that operates this Shelter under Special Permit with the US Forest Service provides firewood, a woodstove, planning and labor.  Unauthorized use of the A-Frame is a felony under federal law.  Your fees cover maintenance expenses and firewood.
