Portland
Founded by a handful of Nordic enthusiasts in 1968, the Portland Chapter of the Oregon Nordic Club is dedicated to promoting the values of cross country skiing. Portland is perfectly situated for access to the groomed trails and pristine backcountry of three major volcanic peaks of the Cascade Range.
Our organized activities offer opportunities for adventure in all of these areas, from skating at Teacup Lakes and Mount Hood Meadows Nordic trails to the "earn your turns" backcountry of Mt. Hood, Mt. Adams, and Mt. St. Helens.
Our monthly meeting on the first Tuesday of each month during ski season begins with a potluck (all are invited), followed by a program which offers a wide variety of speakers and presentations.
We offer outings throughout the year, for the novice and the expert skier. Our Day Tours program is designed for Easy, Intermediate, and Advanced skiers to enjoy ski tours with skiers of similar abilities. Ski classes for 2012 start in January.
Our Overnight Trips Program organizes adventures from California to Kananaskis, from the Methow Valley to Yellowstone, and even to Norway! See our upcoming outings for more details about our day tours and overnight trips.
Our day tours are open to all, no membership is required. Carpool costs are shared. Our overnight trips require membership in the Portland chapter or another Oregon Nordic Club chapter.
Membership for Single members and Family members is available by submitting a membership application with fee. Overnight trips require membership and submisison of an overnight trip application form and fee. To view and share photos of club activities, visit the photo-sharing site.
The Portland chapter manages the historic Tilly Jane A-Frame under a temporary special use permit authorized by the U.S. Forest Service. Reservations are $15.00 per night per person and can be made through Reserve America.
